With Mercury and Mars in retrograde, September gets off to a shaky start.
BY ERIC FRANCIS

Two planets that everyone can distinctly feel are retrograde through most of the month - Mercury and Mars. September may get off to a shaky start, but after a few bumps the month ends on a lot more solid ground. Much advice has been offered along with all the doom and gloom predictions about retrogrades (particularly Mercury), but it really comes down to this: You just have to let things take their time and work out. Pushing ahead with plans in the face of doubts and obstacles can be costly. Most of the problems that surface during the retrograde of Mercury in particular can be prevented with clarity and understanding. Read the fine print, understand what people are saying, and insist that you have a chance to sleep on any contract before you sign it. Meanwhile, trust delays, and trust that the autumn equinox on the 23rd is going to bring a wave of fresh energy and positive changes.

Aries  (March 20 - April 19)
It's funny that when we finally clean out our closets and throw our old stuff out on the street, half of it's gone before it has a chance to get to the dump. Right now it's not doing you any good to leave your basement, closets, and attic stuffed with a whole lot of old belongings and old beliefs that are just dragging you down. Every bag and box you get rid of will save you space, time, and life force, but more than anything you'll appreciate watching your fears being carted off by others who can really use them.

Taurus  (April 19 - May 20)
Whether the truth is being told in one particular partnership is the most important question you can ask yourself right now. Ask yourself, not anyone else. Too often the more difficult question is not whether someone is being honest with us, but rather what to do about it. Over the course of the month, you'll get to make up your mind about that. Then you can enjoy security that's greater than locks on our doors: knowing that honesty is welcomed - and acknowledged - in your own home.

Gemini  (May 20 - June 21)
You are being forced to reassess certain professional goals, which is causing you to size up a number of your more important plans for what to do with all the money you were supposed to make. What you are lacking in hope you will more than make up for in faith. Your current process is merely a weeding out of weak ideas from strong ones, and real goals and objectives from foggy ideals. The best plans are almost always the ones that are revised five or six times.

Cancer  (June 21 - July 22)
This has been perhaps an overly cautious phase in your life, when you've spent a lot of time sorting out right from wrong on some of the deepest levels you've ever reached. You may also be feeling quite restless about where you live and why you live there, including having your doubts about how the materialistic American way has infiltrated your life. But you're soon to embark on an experiment of living that's bold and rather beautiful, if you dare to take the chance when it comes.

Leo  (July 22 - August 23)
Investment information you receive this month will be of inestimable value, but not immediately. You must take it under advisement and compare notes with those who have more experience and expertise. Too much remains unclear, contradictory, and of questionable veracity. If your instincts tell you to keep your signature off of important documents until the end of the month, you might want to listen. Haste will most likely make waste.

Virgo  (August 23 - September 22)
Whose feelings are actually stable? That's the whole issue with feelings, and why we avoid them so vehemently. Your doubts right now involving a domestic partnership has to do with what you think others may think of you. The stars suggest that if you want to know how others feel about you, ask them directly rather than make potentially costly assumptions. The main reason we lack peace inside our own door is because we refuse to use the truth as a standard. But there is no other.
