NEW YORK--No longer are environmental protection and economic development independent. Sustainability management, which incorporates sustainability efforts into business practices and public policies, provides a means for fostering long-term economic growth while ensuring the Earth remains a productive and viable planet for current and future generations.

As manager of corporate relations at the Earth Institute for the Sustainability Management Master of Science Program at Columbia University, Davida Heller invites the public to attend a book launch and reception for "Sustainability Management: Lessons from and for New York City, America and the Planet" a new book by Dr. Steven Cohen, Executive Director of the Columbia University's Earth Institute and Professor in the Practice of Public Affairs at the School of International and Public Affairs. The event will be held on Tuesday, June 28th, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Faculty Room in Low Memorial Library on the Morningside Campus of Columbia University.

Watch here as Steve Cohen discusses the need for sustainable economic development as well as his motivation and goals for writing the book, which grew from his experience in environmental policy and management.

The book is an essential read, practically addressing the sustainability management issues and providing a means to address them in any organization. Directed at policymakers, students, scholars, and managers from both the private and public sectors, Cohen utilizes examples from New York City and all over the world to illustrate how a host of sustainability efforts, ranging from energy to waste management, can positively impact businesses, the global economy and the planet.

This event is open to the public and registration is recommended.
