After studying naval architecture at the Naval Academy starting in 1969 and then moving on to Pratt Institute in 1971 followed by City College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in architecture, Anthony DiGuiseppe worked in interior design up until 1985. It was at this point that he passed his licensing test and opened up his own architecture firm, DiGuiseppe Architect. Not only a member of the American Institute of Architects but also a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), DiGuiseppe has contributed to the sustainability field internationally by creating a sustainable resort in Sint Maarten in the Caribbean Sea and the restoration of historic Dutch homes in the Hudson Valley. He has earned the Roscoe Award in furniture design and Venice Biennial on Gateway to Venice. He is currently working on Gurney’s Inn Resort and Spa in Montauk, a renovation of the Ethiopian Ambassador’s home in Bronxville, and a boutique hotel in Abuja, Nigeria. With green building and sustainability becoming the norm and not the exception, DiGuiseppe feels the commissioning process for becoming LEED certified needs to be made less time consuming and less expensive. New laws need to be enacted to require all city buildings to be LEED certified. For the new architect coming into the field, DiGuiseppe feels they need to do as much research into alternative energy sources and building materials to see how this new technology is “transforming the skin of buildings.”
