There's nothing more renewable than bamboo. Sometimes growing up to two feet per day, this vivacious plant makes the perfect flooring material, with considerably less strain on the environment than traditional hardwood floors. It can be made to imitate hardwood flooring, or take on a truly unique character all its own. Prices range from $5.39 a sq/ft to $6.79 a sq/ft BR-111

The product itself is actually soft like a pine and shows much more wear compared to my much older maple and oak floors in only 3 years of use. Additionally, the fact that nearly all this product is made in China with its TERRIBLE environmental record, I wonder what the real environmental costs are in terms of the manufacturing and finishing processes needed to make the product and the fact that it has to be transported SO FAR by ship and truck.
